Shelter Cat Saturday - new blog feature

I've been toying with this idea ever since I set up Ollie's blog, and I think maybe now is the time to get beyond the toying stage and actually set it up and get it started.

Shelter Cat Saturday is the new feature on Ollie's blog. Pretty obviously it's on Saturday, and pretty obviously it's going to be for kitties looking for their forever home.

What I'd like to do is concentrate on black or predominantly black (and we'll include the black torties and dark grey/smoke colors) cats. These cats need to be either in a shelter or rescue group or in a foster home. They can be any age, either sex and any coat length...the main thing is their color.

What I'll need sent to ollie@dh dot gridspace dot net is the following:
(Please put Shelter Cat Saturday in the subject line if you remember.)
Picture
Name
Location
A bit of a write up about the cat (if the cat is on Petfinder, a link to his page would be wonderful)
A bit about the shelter/rescue group (if you have adoption restrictions, please be sure and include them.)

If you've currently got more than one black cat, that's cool. I'll post all pictures from one source on the same Saturday. If you get another black cat later that you'd like to have posted, just send it over to me with the information. There's no real limit on the number of times a group or person can submit pictures.

Right now, I expect to do one post per Saturday, but if this idea is popular, and I get a lot of submissions, I may go ahead and increase the number of posts. Just sort of depends on the response.

Also, if one of the black cats gets adopted, shoot me a quick blurb and picture, and I'll be more than happy to post it on Ollie's blog.

And please, feel free to spread the word about what we're doing here. Getting the black cats into permanent, loving homes is the goal. The more people who pass through here, the more possible adoptions we can get. Everyone benefits.

  2. I am Magic Kitty. I live with two other female tuxedo kitties. Right now we are fostering two black altered males born in August 2011. just so happens that at 10 weeks of age it was prime adoption time right at Halloween. They have been living here with us but the landlord says it is us or them. The single mom cat lady who lives here and FEEDS me and who rescued me 5 years ago just got the big "C" so moving with her two tweenages is out of the question. We live in Newport Beach California. The boys are totally vetted and ready to blast off into your living room for many future fireside chats and tali chasing marathons. My little bros would make a complete set of black panther gargoyles for your front porch. What do ya say, and after all I taught them all my really good cat tricks anyway. It is your turn now. 949 230 1318 we can we meet up.

  3. This is such a wonderful idea. We certainly will send you some posts. The poor black cats do have a hard time finding homes. We love black cats and have two here. I am so glad to meet you Ollie. We love anyone that has black fur. Our names are Black and Bees. What day do you want to receive the posts??
Again this is such a good idea. Take care.

  7. What a cool Idea!

I will add a link in my sidebar, and mention you in my upcoming event round-up, too!

BTW, I live in Santa Ana, not too far from the County Shelter, and about 10 miles from Newport Beach! ;-D

Daddy stopped by the OC Shelter, this morning and saw a black cat/tortie that made him laugh because the only color on it that could qualify it as a Tortie was found on its nose! ;-D

  8. Nikita,

Thank you! I am hoping this blog feature will take off, but right now, it's slow. I don't have anyone for next Saturday, but I hope that will change.

As of 11/3/12, I've had to limit comments on Ollie's blog to only members since it's being hit by a ton of comment spam. If a few weeks, I'll open it back up. Since Ollie is currently on vacation, I don't expect it to be a problem.

Note: Only a member of this blog may post a comment.
